The Uccelliera was designed as a key feature both for the prestige of the architecture and for its central position in the layout of the park (Villa Borghese) during the XVII sec. by Marcantonio e Pietro Fontana and then Carlo Rainaldi.

It was built in the area next to the main Casino and conceived as a backdrop and boundary for the second Secret Garden. 

The intervention aims to remove the surplus structures (two WC rooms inside the south hall), and to replace the skylights with appropriate and technologically advanced elements. The mechanical systems are minimal, with fan coils and an air dehumidifier.

The current staircase on the park side is replaced with a modern step-staircase with travertine finishes. Inside, the rooms distributed from the entrance hall are connected by removing the existing steps (currently navigated with improper embossed steel ramps) and lowering them to the level of the hall. New all-glass fixtures will replace the old iron ones, which are now outdated and visually intrusive on the secret garden side. The window on the south side is reopened. The building shows problems with the cohesion of the rich external stucco decorations, as well as obvious damage caused by rising damp in the lower areas of the facades, due to the lack of an appropriate external perimeter cavity. Obviously, the building, as far as the exterior is concerned, is undergoing a complete restorative renovation.

- restoration of the aviaries;  
- modernization, compliance, and integration of the systems, energy efficiency improvements carried out in a way compatible with the protected nature of the property;  
- enhancement, also through a lighting design project for the exterior.
